Pricing: How much does it costs?

This is usually the second question I get when speaking with potential clients about their personal or business projects. Here’s an example of a typical exchange:

• Client: Hey, I hear you’re into computers. Do you build websites?
• My reply: "Yes" and what is it I can do for you?
• Client: I need a website done, how much does it cost?
• My reply: How much time do you have to discuss it?

Since I love what I do I don’t mind the inquiries for assistance on personal or business projects. When it comes to web design these usually end up being "fishing attempts" that fail because I’m unable to answer the "initial" question without learning the full scope of the project. The more information I have on your project the easier it is for me to provide an estimate. 

Why Can’t You Just Tell Me How Much It Cost!

This usually isn’t possible due to the lack of information provided. I can provide a flat fee to repair a computer or build a server but web design is "value based" and therefore requires more indepth discussion to fully understand the scope of project. I don’t charge an hourly fee so I have to ask additional questions to further probe and expose other areas you may not have considered. This information also helps me to determine the amount of time that’s to be allotted to a particular project.

What Happens When You Buy A car?

When you’re ready to buy a new or used car and you make it known to the salesman he’s likely to ask additional questions:

• How much do you have for a down payment?
• How’s your credit?
• Can you drive?

Keep this in mind when you’re seeking help on web projects as you’re likely to get asked the following questions to start:

• What type of web project are you inquiring about? Blog, Store front, etc.
• Is this for a new website or are you re-designing an existing website?
• Are you looking to move your website to another host?

What you have to understand is that every web project is different and comes with it’s own set of questions, parameters, and costs.

Do You Have a Price Range?

Yes I do! Once I’ve attained the necessary information I’m able to match your requests to other projects with similar requests.

Personal Websites
Most new personal websites used for blogging can start as low as $500.00. This can includes domain reqistration, web host set up, and website design. Additional features are available that directly effect these initial costs.
Redesigning a personal website can be higher or lower depening on the amount of changes required.

Business Websites
Depending on the business need most new web sites can start around $2500 and up. This includes web design and database configuration. Most business website re-designs start at $1500 and up depending on the amount of changes required.

Projects that have a smaller scope can cost significantly less than those listed above.
